Pack It Ship It is an independently owned and operated packing, shipping, printing and business services center located in Washington, UT opened by Joel and Summer Robertson.
Joel and Summer Robertson are high school sweethearts who met at Pine View High School in St. George in the 90s. Fast forward 30 years, and they now have their own high school kids, as well as a brand-new business they've launched called Pack It Ship It. Opening November 15th, Pack It Ship It is a much-needed mail store located on Red Cliffs Drive just north of Costco within the Green Springs Shopping Center next to Albertsons and Harbor Freight.
The Robertsons lived on the east coast for 10 years where they both graduated from Columbia University in NYC. They returned home to southern Utah in 2006. For the last 18 years, Joel has been running a real estate brokerage, called Robertson Real Estate, while Summer has been involved in the local art scene. She was the founder and director of the St. George Dance Company and the Red Rock Dance Festival, as well as a member of the RAP Tax Committee and St. George Arts Commission.
“Our kids are now all in school, and not only did I find I had more time during the day, but I have been craving interaction with people," Summer says. "Joel and I brainstormed what direction we should head next, and a mail store came out on top. It’s certainly a service that is desperately needed in this area. But, more than anything, I’m looking forward to meeting new people and developing relationships with my customers. From a business standpoint, my goal is to be the expert and deliver friendly, top-notch customer service.”
Summer is the operator of Pack It Ship It, which is an authorized shipper and receiver for all the major carriers including UPS, USPS, FedEx and DHL. Their other services include mailbox rentals, packing, freight, printing, copying, notary, fax, and gift wrapping. They also have an array of common office supplies for sale, as well as snacks and drinks.
“We are the only mail and copy center on the east side of Foremaster Ridge and all of Washington City," Joel explains. "While we expect to meet the needs of our friends and neighbors within east St. George, Washington City and even west Hurricane, what we’re hoping is that people from other areas will drive a few miles further to experience the high level of service we offer. I mean, people drive across town for a certain restaurant they absolutely love, right?”
Pack It Ship It rents private mailboxes with a real street address that work great for any person, home-based business (including an LLC's registered address), expat, frequent traveler, and student. They accept all mail and packages from the US Postal Service, FedEx, UPS, DHL and other carriers. In addition, each time a package is delivered to Pack It Ship It, an automatic e-mail is sent to the customer letting them know their package has arrived.
Joel warned that "porch piracy is a growing problem in the greater St. George area and across the U.S, especially during the holidays. Last year, an estimated 115 million packages were stolen off porches. Having your mail and packages delivered to your private mailbox at Pack It Ship It ensures both privacy and security. It's also very convenient and so affordable. Our mailboxes are only $18-$28 per month.”
Summer says that Pack It Ship It is also equipped to handle order fulfillment for small and home-based businesses in the greater southern Utah area. “We have a storage area in our store for small merchandise and off-site storage for larger items. Packing and shipping happens to be our life. So, let us handle your packing and shipping needs, so that you can be most efficient and live your best life.”
We asked the Robertsons whether they’re accepting Amazon returns. Summer laughed and replied, "That's a question we get daily, and the short answer is yes, we do. But, within Amazon's website, please be sure to select 'UPS Dropoff - box and label needed' and then print the free label or email the free label to us to print. If the item is not already packaged, we can package it for a fee."
Pack It Ship It has over 50 sized boxes and various packing materials in order to save their customers money. Apparently, every inch is significant when it comes to shipping costs. "Carrier stores and the USPS are quite limited in the boxes and packing materials they offer," Joel reasoned. "Not only are our shipping costs similar or even lower than going direct to carriers, but we are always looking for other ways to save our customers money and stay competitive.”
